15th Jazzsummer - The Jazz. The Palatinate.

Between May and August, the International Jazz Festival palatia jazz presents 18 concerts in the Palatinate.Almost all open-air concerts will be in distinctive and historic venues. Looking back, the organizer, Yvonne Moissl performs the 15th Jazz summer with her company, S.Y.M GmbH - already 1997 and 1998 the festival had started in Deidesheim before it has spread out 1999 with palatia jazz all over Palatinate far today.

Focus this year is the music of known European jazz stars who will present their wide range of jazz compositions through to improvised music.The festival offers a wide musical experimentation in this field for the contemporary jazz and all forms of art. But not just concert music is on offer, but also hot dance rhythms from samba and salsa from Sergio Mendes to electronics and cool jazz of the cult band Jazzanova . There will be the opportunity to celebrate the concert events.

There are further expected international stars, such as the piano icon Ahmad Jamal, festival regular Renaud Garcia Fons, the American singer Jane Monheit, the Echo Award winner Celine Rudolph, from Brazil Paula Morelenbaum, Stacey Kent with her French jazz program, the mystical music of Jan Garbarek & the Hillards, as well as the drummer legend Günter Baby Sommer , together with colleagues present a reading with improvised music for prose by Heinrich Heine.The young squad of young talent, like the Jazz-Echo-winning trio of Martin Tingvall, the ravishing young jazz singer Gretchen Parlato, the furious duo of kora and cello of the soloists Ballaké Sissoko & Vincent Segal, the "lonestanding piano player " Yaron Herman, the German funk band Mo 'Blow belong to the selection of the bands that appear fresh and free, full of new music.

For the first time as "Artist in Residence" the world percussionist Trilok Gurtu is invited for a few days at palatia jazz. In addition to his German premiere his orchestral project "Gurtu plays jazz and world music to Classics, featuring Paolo Fresu" he is as a soloist at a very intimate evening with all of his favorite instruments, customized editions and Drummingtoys. He will present the many exciting stories from his musical life and an Indian buffet with his favorite foods.

The popular program of the festival Jazz Cuisine restaurant is the hallmark of the festival that receives the guests with selected wines, sparkling wines best specialities of the winery “Reichsrat von Buhl” and freshly prepared food in the opening act.
