Jacky Terrasson Trio

Jacky Terrasson hat seit dem Gewinn des Thelonious Monk Award 1993 als bester Jazz-Nachwuchspianist eine Blitzkarriere hingelegt: Einerseits, “zuverlässig brillant“, (New York Times) als Begleiter von Sängerinnen wie Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves oder Dee Dee Bridgewater, andererseits in wechselnden Kooperationen mit den Großen der Branche und mit seinem eigenen Klaviertrio. Ein Grenzgänger, der etwas zu sagen hat und dies auf dem renommierten Jazzlabel Blue Note tut. 1995 wurde sein erstes Album “Jacky Terrasson“ von der Académie du Jazz mit dem Prix Boris Vian ausgezeichnet. 2003 wurde ihm von der gleichen Institution der Prix Django Reinhardt als französischer Jazzmusiker des Jahres verliehen. Ebenfalls 2003 erhielt er für sein Album “Smile“ den Preis Les Victoires du Jazz als bestes französisches Jazzalbum des Jahres 2004 begleitete er die norwegische Sängerin Rigmor Gustafsson auf ihrem Album „Close to you“, einem Tribut an die große Dame des amerikanischen Soul, Dionne Warwick. Außerdem wirkte er an Alben von Emmanuel Pahud, Stefon Harris, Stefano Di Battista, Charles Aznavour und Tom Harrell mit. Jacky Terrasson präsentiert im Rahmen seines Auftritts beim diesjährigen palatia jazz sein neues Album “Push“.

Franco-American Jacky Terrasson, born in Berlin in 1965, belongs with his fresh, unconsumed energy to the next generation of Jazz musicians. Terrasson developed his own, distinctive signature style through a wealth of experiences gained from a decade of creative work. The mature style, brilliant technique and boundless creativity are good assets that allow him to make a lasting impact among the league of the great. Spontaneity, pure joy of life and the desire to improvise, are trademarks of Jacky Terrasson’s and his trio’s highly-dynamic musical work. Swinging, stormy, playful and straightforward – through a dialogue with his fellow musicians – he develops a fiery and stirring musical play. Similarly, Terrasson creates melodic and emotional moments full of contemplation and devotion, and takes the liberty to play with harmonies, rhythms and spontaneity.

Since winning the Thelonious Monk award in 1993, as best Jazz pianist newcomer, Jacky Terrasson has had a stormy career: “reliably brilliant” (New York Times Magazine) as accompanist of singers like Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves or Dee Dee Bridgewater and through various collaborations with the industry’s major players and his own piano trio. Jacky Terrasson is someone who crosses borders, has something to say and does so on the renowned Blue Note’s Jazz label. In 1995, his first album “Jacky Terrasson” was awarded with the Prix Boris Vian by the Academie du Jazz. In 2003 he was awarded with the Prix Django Reinhardt as French Jazz Musician of the Year by the same institution. That same year he received les Victoires du Jazz Award for his album “Smile”, as Best French Jazz Album of the Year. In 2004, Jacky Terrasson accompanied Norwegian singer Rigmor Gustafsson on her album “Close to you”, a tribute to the great voice of American soul, Dionne Warwick. He has also contributed to albums by Emmanuel Pahud, Stefon Harris, Stefano Di Battista, Charles Aznavour and Tom Harrell. Jacky Terrasson will be presenting his new album “Push” at this year’s palatia jazz festival.

Né en 1965 à Berlin, le Franco-Américain Jacky Terrasson, avec son énergie intacte, fait partie de la prochaine génération de musiciens de Jazz. Il a créé une signature distinctive, puisée dans la richesse de son expérience acquise au cours des 10 dernières années. La maturité de son style, sa technique brillante et sa créativité infinie sont des atouts qui lui permettent de faire partie de la ligue des personnalités du Jazz. Dans son trio hautement dynamique, on retrouve la spontanéité, la joie et le plaisir d'improvisation qui sont la marque de fabrique de Jacky Terrasson. Il développe - en accord avec ses collègues musiciens – un jeu musical ardent et exaltant, à la fois swingué, orageux, ludique et direct. En parallèle Jacky Terrasson crée des moments mélodiques et intimes plein de contemplation et de dévotion, et prend la liberté de jouer spontanément avec harmonies et rythmes.

Depuis qu’il a remporté le Prix Thelonious Monk en 1993 comme meilleur jeune pianiste de Jazz, Jacky Terrasson connait une carrière fulgurante. Déclaré «invariablement brillant» par le New York Times il a accompagné des chanteurs comme Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves et Dee Dee Bridgewater, a également collaboré avec les grands noms du Jazz et se produit avec son propre trio. Jacky Terrasson est un travailleur transfrontalier qui a quelque chose à dire et le fait par le biais du célèbre label de Jazz Blue Note. En 1995, son premier album «Jacky Terrasson» reçut le Prix Boris Vian de l'Académie du Jazz, qui lui discerna également en 2003 le Prix Django Reinhardt en tant que musicien français de Jazz de l'année. Toujours en 2003 il reçut Les Victoires du Jazz pour son album «Smile», comme meilleur album de Jazz de l'année. En 2004, il accompagna la chanteuse Norvégienne Rigmor Gustafsson sur l’album «Close to You», un hommage à la grande Dame de la Soul américaine, Dionne Warwick. Cette année Jacky Terrasson présentera son nouvel album «Push» au festival jazz palatia.
