Nach ausgedehnten Konzertaktivitäten wirft Lang, der bereits für das legendäre Label Blue Note aufgenommen hat, einen neuen und sichtlich gereiften Blick auf Lyoba. In den Celli fließen die Stimmen organisch ineinander, sie entfalten Anmut - ganz wie es die Stücke des Abbé Bovet in Chor-Aufnahmen tun. Das Klavier setzt lyrisch-jazzige Akzente mit dezenten Harmonisierungen, Heiri Känzigs Bass sorgt für einen fein vorwärtsstrebenden Untergrund, und einen ganz eigenen Zauber entfaltet das Flügelhorn-Spiel von Matthieu Michel. Matthieu Michel, Thierry Lang und der für ungewöhnliche Projekte und kraftvolle Linien voller Feingefühl bekannte Heiri Känzig sind ein Dreiergespann, das harmonierende Farbenvielfalt garantiert - und selbst Tango-Rhythmen wirken in diesem kunstvollen Alpen-Sound nicht fehl am Platz.

Thierry Lang is, apart from George Gruntz, the most successful Swiss Jazz export. Whenever pianist Lang plays live, he fascinates his audience and provides, with the music from his album “Lyoba Revisited”, balm for the heart, mind and soul. Herdsman folksongs as Jazz-elegies, lyrical piano-play, cellos miming a male choir, and a flugelhorn that generates an alphorn aura: Lyoba, a swiss rooted music, is quiet, elegiac, and exceptionally touching, and is certainly not only to the tastes of fellow countrymen, but to the contrary, a universal Jazz sound for everyone. The quiet poet, who loves “to listen back to the sound when caressing the piano keys” (Neue Züricher Newspaper), transforms with an unusual music line-up Folk melodies from the Canton of Fribourg into fine Jazz chamber music of unusual beauty. Four cellos are added to the piano, double bass, and flugelhorn, creating sensitively touching artworks of warm sounding music for the homesick, full of charm, finesse and sensitivity.

Lang, who already recorded for the legendary Blue Note Label, revised “Lyoba” with a matured view after a prolonged series of concerts. The cello voices flow organically into one another, they gracefully unfold – just as the pieces of Abbé Bovet’s choir recordings do. The piano brings together lyrical, jazzy accents with a subtle harmonisation, and Heiri Känzig’s bass adds a finely tuned propulsive foundation, whilst Mathieu Michel’s flugelhorn play develops a unique melodic magic. Matthieu Michel, Thierry Lang and Heiri Känzig, known for their extraordinary projects and powerfully sensitive sounds, are a trio that guarantees a harmony of a wide range of tonal colours – even Tango rhythms don’t sound out of tune in this arty sound of the Alps.
